New Job: Telligent Systems

Bar3a_01.gif

Well, I have been waiting to write this blog for a while now...  so here goes.

I have been working with the .Text and Community Server source for a while now, and was privileged to be part of the Community Server "Commit" team.  Telligent gave a few community members access to the source code, and dragnet bug tracking, and let us "help out".  In addition I have some big plans for my upcoming mycommunityserver.com site..

I got the chance to come on board, and like those who have gone before me...  to turn my "hobby" into my "day job"...  I have to say it is an awesome concept..  That said, I have enjoyed my work at Tushaus, and will be sad to let the excellent people, projects, and work environment go..  I think that Scott stated it very succinctly in his post from just about a year ago, when he made the same move...

I feel privileged to work with a great team of individuals who have not only excelled at their day jobs, but have spent many hours contributing to various open source projects.

In the past it has been pretty easy to move from one job to another. But as I start to learn more about what I am looking for in an employer, it gets harder to leave. IHS was a great place to work and I learned quite a bit during my couple years with them. But the more I talked to about his vision for Telligent Systems, the more I was sure I wanted to be part of it.

{post.replace("IHS", "Tushaus");}...  So it would appear that Kevin and I get to go walk in Scott's shadow for a bit,  working with him to move the Community Server code-base to the next level.

Stay Tuned.

Dan

# Dan Bartels and Kevin on board - CS full time @ Monday, May 30, 2005 1:27 AM

Its amazing that I've had a gut feeling since Forum II that there was something cool about what sprung from roots in the forum I application. Watching Terry put such an extraordinary effort into the forum application.... when I first got my hands on the forum II alpha and stepped through all the code to see all the cool techniques I had never seen anywhere else, from the database to skinning to managing lots of files, on and on so many things that no amount of text space could describe - and seeing Robs search engine that after I studied pretty closely had me go 'wow'. I've always had a gut feeling that something cool was going to come out of this, so much so that I actually built a CSK style portal off of the alpha code.

Today was a pretty cool day because I checked out a blog I haven't checked out for a while. Dan Bartels is no longer just a developer writting great mods on his own, for no reason but to do it. I'll never forget about whining about not having a clearScreen skin for CS, and Dan cranks one out in an hour or two and says "now you have no excuses", or all of the tweeks and mods that he cranked out since CS launched. This guy is an extremely focused guy - blunt, honest, and best of all for CS, rather than complaining about not having a feature in CS, he just goes out and does it. Same thing for Kevin who I don't know much about but who cranked out more mods than anyone I know, there's only a couple of people making modifications.

So with that said, I'm extremely happy to see CS go from where it was way back in the day, to where it is today, and to see where its going to be tommorrow - because with people who were creating incredible mods to overcome so many things all on their own, working directly on the codebase that I'm going to get for free in time, I wanna say thanks to the powers that be to make stuff like that happen.

Congrats to Dan and Kevin! We loved your work and we're going to love it even more not having to install mods, and to have you guys full time on a product that for some of us is the center of our universe. nough said
