Vista 5270 - Huge step forward |
|
So far this my 5270 experience has been very positive... I was greeted by an auto boot CD (Upgrade was disabled) which allowed to to properly load my SII3112 SATA driver, and recognized the drive. Installation went fine, with just a few minor quirks (Like you tell it the machine name to use, and it forgets it and asks you again later)...
Once running, the UI is considerably faster, the start menu and shutdown have been polished, now its just a game of find and seek (looking for the new homes for things like the display settings)
Add remove programs is in there (sort of) and you have the ability to install the new IIS 7 (which I did, I have yet to try to develop with VS2005 against it, but I will let you know how that works out...
Also MediaCenter is in there, I picked up a new HDTV Wonder card on sale for 60$ I have yet to try it, but rest assured I will post the outcome...
So far, this build looks good enough, it might even be worthy of installing on my main production system..
On a related note... I ordered a Toshiba Tecra M4 to test the tablet PC functionality... I ordered it through their vendor demo program (over two months ago)... Still no status update or ETA... If there was another tablet option with a comparable screen res...I'd be telling them where to go by now =(
